The Martian

I recently read The Martian by Andy Weir and I just finished it in time before the unavoidable trailers would spoil the story for me.

The book was utterly exciting, from beginning to end. I could barley put the book down, I was reading it at every spare moment to see how things would pan out for Mark Watney, the greatest botanist on Mars.

The story takes place in a non-specific year,(Andy Weir has left if unspecified because he wants his readers to figure it out) in my opinion, not too distant future. All goes well for the Ares 3 crew until the arrival of a Martian storm cuts the mission short...

I don't want to give anything away, but the whole story is written in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat and looking ahead for the next challenge for Mark.  His ability to "Science the shit" out of any problem is like watching a finely tuned craftsman perfect his craft before our eyes. The best part is that all his solutions are well researched and completely possible.

I can thoroughly recommend The Martian to any fan of a great adventure story, you don't even have to be a hardened sci-fi nerd to appreciate this brilliant narrative.
I can't wait to read whatever Andy Weir comes up with next. (5/5)
